Antique Morris & Yeomans Needle Cabinet – Rare Haberdashery Display
A rare survivor of early 20th-century shop fittings, this Morris & Yeomans needle cabinet is a striking piece of haberdashery history. Originally used in drapers' shops to display and dispense packets of needles, it would have sat proudly on the counter, combining practicality with elegant branding.
Morris & Yeomans Ltd, based in Redditch – the historic heart of Britain’s needle-making industry – was among several respected manufacturers producing sewing notions and needlework supplies during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Redditch needles were world-renowned for their strength, precision, and polish, and Morris & Yeomans proudly contributed to that legacy.
This cabinet is made from solid wood and features original glazed advertising panels that once held needle packets in size or type order. It would have stood on a shop counter, combining attractive branding with practical function. Cabinets like this were not sold to the public but provided directly to retailers as point-of-sale displays – making their survival today particularly rare.
The cabinet has some wear consistent with age and use – adding to its character and authenticity. There is a crack in the wood to one side panel and the back, and internal dividers are no longer present, despite this the cabinet is solid.
